Reality TV - Hills Edition- Season 1

Now I know The Hills is not a new show to reality television., but I just got Netflix today on my Wii so i decided to re watch it.

Seems so different watching it now in 2013, then when it came out in 2006. That feels like yesterday, when it was 7 years ago.  Crazy how time flies.

Recap - episode 1-6

Here is a summary of episodes 1-6

We see Lauren & Heidi move to LA and meet Audriana. Lauren juggles between school & her Teen Vogue intern. Heidi drops out of college, and gets her "dream job" at Bolthouse, doing PR.

Speaking of Heidi getting her dream job. She decides since this is what she would be going to school for anyways, she decides to drop out of school. She quickly learns, that you need to start at the bottom & work your way to the top (or in her case what you actually want to be doing).

Lauren also rekindles with her ex Jason. This is interesting because a few years later he appears on celebrity rehab as an alcoholic. You can see the signs on The Hills. His birthday episode he is wasted (keep it mind not 21 yet), & seems stand offish. Also in some of the episodes he seems drunk. I can see why Lauren is attracted to him, everyone loves the good looking, bad boy. Also when people we truly care about fuck us over it can be easy just to take them back into our lives and give them "another chance".

We also see Heidi's relationship with her boyfriend Jordan.  Its so funny to see Heidi get so excited about a 6 month anniversary, seems so juvenile.  While they are cute together, there relationship is plagued by jealously. Both get jealous over silly things, (ex bfs coming up to talk, talking to the opposite sex, being gone for a tad too long). I would suspect both have some type of insecurities.

Heidi looks so cute, innocent & normal in the early seasons. She looks so average and just like everyone else. As we know from later seasons, she clearly lets fame get to her.

These particular episodes seem real, and not so staged and forced, like scenes later in the series.  I think this is why at the time people were so drawn to the show. It seems so real, and relatable on so many levels (relationships, work, career etc). Also the characters (early on) seem down to earth and normal. At the same time we get to live through them, meaning experiencing the sweet clubs they go and the extravagant things they do.
